A few months ago, I finally got all my cardstock labels printed and assigned to the correct folder! You see, the cardstock was organized into separate file folders, but I didn't have labels on them for the longest time! What good are separate folders if you don't know what is inside them?!?!Here's what I did...
- Typed the name of every color of cardstock I have, and put either "SU" or "PTI" for Stampin' Up! or Papertrey Ink after the name. I printed on regular white printer paper, then used my paper cutter to cut them out quickly
- Left some blank space to the left of the name to place a small circle punch shape for a sample of the color!
- Placed the label inside the clear tab, then attached the color swatch to the outside of the tab with a little dab of adhesive
- Alternated each tab in a different position so it's easy to read the labels
- Opted to organize it by color, not alphabetically or by color family
It's about 14" x 23" x 10". Here is a link to a box just like it. Hope this helps!
I LOVE THIS SYSTEM!! Makes finding the color I need SO easy! It is also a
good reminder to use colors I don't use that often. The pieces you see right in front are half sheets that are already cut. It's easy to quickly check that spot if I need a specific color. I hope this guide

ReplyDeleteI love your color swatch dots on the labels...what a great visual reference! I have mine in hanging folders too but keep any partial sheets and scraps in a page protector in the file with the full sheets. I like having all the scraps contained and I can see at a glance if I really need to cut into a full sheet for a small piece.
ReplyDeletethats an excellent addition to this already great plan!! I have mine in basic colour family boxes but have to hunt through all of the box for the right colour!! I need about a solid month of 9-5 to re-arrange my craft area from top to bottom with all of the handy hints i see tonight! Work is getting in the way of my plans!!

ReplyDeleteA ziplock bag holds the scraps well and in your system I would add one behind about every fourth folder to hold four colors of scrap. Maybe bring the edge up and add the identifying tag with squares of all the enclosed colors so you know it is partials and scraps. The tow gallon ziplock-type baggies are great for traveling with large paper too.

ReplyDeleteI don't have that much 12 x 12 cardstock, but I do have it sitting in a standard letter size mesh file box (with an open top), without any folders. It barely fits in it because the opening is just about 12" wide. I really don't "organize" it within the box because there really isn't that much.
DeleteNicki S. Did you find something to use for your 12 x 12 paper? I'm going nuts. I have plenty of the clear hanging folders for putting the paper in, but every storage box is way too small. It's as if the powers that be think we just want to have a small tote to carry around. I don't they are heavy and awkward to drag in and out of my closet. If I going to an event, fine, but to store in my home, I want a large storage containing. Doesn't even have to have a lid. There must be a way. I know I'm nearly 5 years later asking this of you. Just trying to find a way:-)

DeleteI'm glad you found my idea useful! Unfortunately, I don't have all the card stock colors typed up anymore. I created a template from scratch in Adobe Illustrator using the size of the tabs I purchased, and just type up new labels when I need them.
I hope your daughter can be of help for you!

ReplyDeleteThis is really neat! You can easily see the names of the sorted items for quick access or just browse through the colors and choose whichever strikes your fancy! I also have some stuff sorted in storage boxes, but I haven’t had the time to label them yet. I might copy yours if you don’t mind.
